ESMOD KL Rocks Penang Fashion Week 2017

Students of first Paris fashion design school ESMOD Kuala Lumpur returned to rock the third edition of Penang Fashion Week 2017, one of Malaysia’s most significant fashion event that showcases a multitude of fashion design talents and inspirations from local and abroad, with their latest fashion collection at Gurney Paragon Mall.

With the theme of the fashion week being ‘Colours of Spring/Summer 2017’, the students of ESMOD Kuala Lumpur paraded a total of 24 outstanding garments inspired by their concept of ‘Astral éphémère’ which means a fantasy-like realm that only lasts for a short amount of time. By blending in these two themes, and also through minimalism and creative use of colors, the breathtaking collections swept the audience off their feet.

Fashion Design student Goh Yuan Qi showcased her Yuankey Collection which was inspired by Empress Wu Ze Tian from the Tang Dynasty who was the only female emperor in China. Like the strong woman the Empress was, Goh incorporated a masculine touch to her feminine collection to depict a strong female character and promote feminism.

Another star on the runway, the Manus X Machina, a collection created by student L. Linz, paraded one of her outfits in blue with large prints, a tall collar and outlandish sleeves that personified a futuristic element. This collection delivered a visual impact of an abstract theme inspired by the juxtaposition of fashion and future technology.

Another ESMOD KL student Audrey Yong mesmerised the audience with AUDREYKITTE, a collection that is influenced by Musubi, a traditional method of summoning a guardian god in Japan, and also by Japanese origami which gives her collection consistent geometrical motifs.

In addition to ESMOD KL, the overall Penang Fashion Week 2017 also featured local fashion designers Eric Choong, Keith Kee, Ranndy Goh, Bon Zainal, and also international fashionistas Illiza Ho (Hong Kong), Richard Li (Hong Kong) and Mo Hom (Myanmar), among a few others. The event launching was graced by world-renowned Malaysian fashion icon Datuk Jimmy Choo and Hong Kong TVB celebrity Grace Wong.

With such a star-studded attendance, this experience was definitely more than just an act of parading their fashion collection on a verdant catwalk and backdrop for the students of ESMOD KL. It was an invaluable learning experience and exposure.

“We always try our best to provide our ESMOD Kuala Lumpur students with the best experience and exposure as part of our ‘Masters Train Master’ teaching philosophy. Through this event, students can watch and be inspired, with their own eyes, by looking at how local and international fashion designers tailor their collections. From there, they will be more enthusiastic to come up with better designs,” said Tan Chin Wee, Group Executive Director of ESMOD Kuala Lumpur.

ESMOD has a network of 21 schools in 14 countries with the same top notch syllabus as ESMOD Paris. Catering to the growing demand for an international fashion school in Malaysia, The One Academy joined the network with ESMOD Kuala Lumpur to provide youths a chance to learn from one of world’s top fashion schools locally. Just like The One Academy’s 25-year-old commitment to the ‘Masters Train Masters’ coaching philosophy, ESMOD Kuala Lumpur students are nurtured with the best Parisian fashion design education through comprehensive syllabuses that cover not only the creative-based fashion designing, but also the high level practical techniques of pattern-making which are led by experienced international fashion designers, most of whom hail from Paris, the world’s fashion capital.

Those who have missed the show can catch the film inspired collection showcase by AMBERSZE London and ESMOD Kuala Lumpur at the #ThroughTheLookingGlass Fashion Inspired Exhibition, Ground Floor, The Gardens Mall, from 11th to 20th July 2016.
